The matte surfaces of the grapes and the polished surfaces of the apples were the challenge here. The contrast of the translucent grapes with the opaque apples added some more interest for me.

Still Life With Lemons and Pail

I found this marvellous setup on the Wet Canvas Reference Image Library.
Frank Sinatra once said that singing a Cole Porter song made his job easy- the composition was so good that he could just concentrate on interpreting it .
That was the case here. This masterful composition let me concentrate on using paint to translate the forms as I saw them.
I don't know who the photographer is, but whoever you are.. congratulations on this masterpiece and thanks!
